Passive Arms Drill with SwingBuilder
For those who struggle keeping the arms from dominating the swing, practicing with a SwingBuilder will quickly
ingrain
the passive arms feeling required for an efficient Rotary type swing.
During your practice session, this drill should be done for 10 repititions in erect posture at an easy pace, and for 30 repitions
in golf posture, with accellerating pace after each set of 10. The final set should be at full speed. Take 2 to 5 minute breaks (depending on your stamina) between sets of 10.
Hold the SwingBuilder in front of
your body with arms extended. The green fins of the SwingBuilder should be parallel to the ground. Swing
the SwingBuilder back behind you and then swing back through, noting the massive amount of resistance that the
SwingBuilder provides. If you swing the SwingBuilder through impact aggressively with the arms instead of with a body turn,
you should note two things.
- Because of the resistance, it does not swing through very smoothly unless you allow the rotation
of the body to gradually accelerate the SwingBuilder.
- If you try and swing the SwingBuilder with arms more so than the body, it will make a swooshing sound twice,
once around impact and again there after. The desired affect is that the SwingBuilder makes a gradual swooshing sound
that reaches its peak well out in front of the body after your torso has rotated left of the ball-target line, rather
than near impact. This lets you know that you used your body to accelerate the SwingBuilder and not the arms.
You
should also note that using your body to accelerate the SwingBuilder makes the swing feel much smoother, whereas
it will feel somewhat jerky if you over use your arms.
