Basic Lessons and Rates

Basic lessons are normally broken down into four fundamental categories:

  1. Putting   during the basic putting lesson we discuss equipment and how environmental and other factors affect putting. The student will
    • learn a pre-shot routine for putting,
    • learn a repeatable putting method,
    • practice lag putts and short putts,

The student will leave this lesson with a thorough understanding of the basics of putting and a method to become an excellent putter. Virtually every student that has taken the basic putting lesson has cut down on their three putt holes, which kill a good scoring round in a hurry.

In my opinion, there is no reason why anyone can not become an excellent putter if they know what to do and are willing to practice.

After this lesson students will know what to do.

  2. Chipping    Covers proper chipping technique. If a student is a poor chipper, he or she will be much improved after this lesson.

  3. Ball Striking    Designed to make the student a better ball striker by learning and feeling the correct body and club positions at impact.

The student will also be exposed to different techniques for releasing the clubhead at impact.

See the Ball Striking section below for more detailed information on this lesson.

  4. Full Swing   The focus of this lesson will be to learn a fundamental full swing method.

Students will be taken through various drills and hit balls to practice a swing method that works for them.

These lessons provide a thorough explanation of each subject so that the student will have a good understanding of each technique. A diference between Basic lessons and Private lessons, is that with Basic lessons email notes are provided. The goal of a Basic lesson is to provide an overview of the subject to the student, and the emailed notes provide information for correct practice.

Each lesson runs about 45 minutes, and training aids are used during the lesson sessions as appropriate to aid in learning.

Lesson rates are $45 for a 45 minute lesson. Range balls used during the lesson are included in the price.

Basic 3 Lesson Package Deal - 4 For The Price of 3

Most students opt for this 4 for the price of 3 package deal for $135 that includes the 4 Basic lessons set up in a 3 lesson package as follows:

Lesson 1 Putting & Chipping - Two lesson subjects combined in one session: Putting and Short Chipping ( this combined lesson runs longer than 45 minutes )

Lesson 2 Ball Striking - Students are taught the correct body and club positions at impact, and to learn how to practice the impact position. The student will also be exposed to different ways that the clubhead may be released at impact.

Lesson 3 Full Swing - Students are taught a fundamental full swing method.

Lessons are scheduled according to the student and teacher's availability, and they are conducted at the Batavia Country Club. Each lesson in this package runs about 45 minutes. Range balls used during the lesson are included in the price.

Private Lessons

One-on-one personalized instruction.

Designed for students that have taken the Basic 3 Lesson Package from Mr. Tucker, or for experienced golfers with intermediate or advanced skill levels. Private lessons are ususlly the choice for students that either want to build or try a new swing method, correct a swing flaw, or work on a specific aspect of their game.

For Private lessons we discuss the focus of the lesson beforehand, so that the lesson plan can be structured accordingly. The goal of a Private lesson is either to address a specific problem, or to set up and work on focused swing segments to improve an existing swing or to make a swing change.

A Private lesson is not usually a quick fix, but on rare occasions a student only needs to repair one segment of their swing to realize vast improvement - but please note that this is very much the exception rather than the rule.

The cost is $45, the duration of the lesson is 45 minutes.

Range balls used during the lesson are included in the price.

Series Lessons

One-on-one personalized instruction.

Designed for serious students, a series of 5 adult private lessons is available for $195, prepaid. We discuss the students needs ahead of time and structure the lesson plan accordingly.

Each lesson runs 45 minutes, you save $30 over 5 private lessons purchased individually.

Range balls used during the lesson are included in the price.

Ball Striking

One-on-one personalized instruction.

Designed to make the student a better ball striker by learning and feeling the correct body and club positions at impact, and to learn how to practice the impact position with a specific drill that can be done at home.

The student will also be exposed to different ways that the clubhead may be released at impact.

I truly believe that if you can get the golf club, your body, and your hands into the correct position at impact with good speed, then how you got it there isn't really too important - as long as it's not absolutely terrible of course!

There are a lot of different ways to execute the backswing, as well as the downswing, but there aren't many options through the impact zone - the area near the bottom of your downswing.

The impact position is one of the few truly fundamental positions in the golf swing.

This particular lesson is dedicated to learning the body and hand movements that will get your club into impact in a powerful position.

When you take the lesson, and continue with an easy practice drill which you'll learn during the lesson, your ball striking absolutely will improve dramatically.

Here's something that's not mentioned often in golf articles or golf tip articles.

It's well known and well advertised that a sure fire way to lower your scores is to work on your putting, and I'm a huge proponent of that.

However, if you can improve your greens hit in regulation (GIR), then you get a chance to make all that putting practice really pay dividends. This is where better ball striking comes into play.

Practicing the drill you will learn during this lesson will absolutely put you on the road to better impact, a more boring and penetrating ball flight, more greens hit in regulation, and hopefully lower scores.

The cost of this lesson is $45, the lesson duration is 45 minutes.

Range balls used during the lesson are included in the price.

Swing Speed Lessons

One-on-one personalized instruction.

Students that will benefit the most from this are those that already possess pretty good swing fundamentals, and want to increase their swing speed to get a few more yards off the tee.

It's often said "Drive for show, putt for dough" - I've said it myself many times, but the facts are that the players that hit it farther off the tee usually score better.

Yards gained equals fewer strokes. Research done by Ben Jackson, a swing speed expert from Rhode Island, proves that the average difference of the distance off the tee in single digit players and 10-14 handicap players is 20 yards!!...and the average difference between 10-14 handicappers and 15 - 21 handicappers is - guess what - 20 yards.

Over 3,000 amateur golfers were used in the study...and the same's true on tour.

More yards off the tee correlates directly with a lower handicap.

Now a faster swing speed with a bad swing will equal a bigger mistake, so the preferred student for this lesson is one that has a good grasp of a sound swing. Swing speed isn't everything for every golfer, but it's large for any good golfer.

I put a lot of research, time and effort into developing a swing speed program, and I tested it with myself and a junior college golf team. Over the course of three weeks of doing specific exersises and drills, there was an across the board swing speed increase of a minimum of 4 mph, and several more dramatic increases.

I was very curious to see how the program would help an older golfer - as in me. I'm in my 60's and my swing speed has diminished over the past several years.

Here are the results for my own swing speed: over the three week period of doing the drills with my golf team, my swing speed went from 97 mph to 106 mph!

I might not have believed that an increase like that was possible if I hadn't experienced it myself - but I wasn't totally surprised. My research indicated that for players that have never done specific swing speed training, big results in as short as three weeks are not that unusual.

I had always been under the impression that being fit and strong was enough for a person to max out their swing speed, but that's not the case. There are other specific movements that need to be done to increase swing speed. You'll do them during the class.

Lesson details: this is a two part lesson. Lessons are conducted a minimum of three weeks apart, and the student is expected to perform certain drills regularly prior to the second part.

At the first lesson, the student warms up and his/her swing speed is recorded using a Swing Speed Radar device.

The swing speed workout is then demonstrated to the student, then the student does the full workout.

The student is given a workout schedule covering the interval of time until part two of the lesson, and is expected to diligently do the drills.

At the second lesson, the student is taken through a workout then the student's swing speed is checked again on a Swing Speed Radar to see how much it improved.

NOTE:  If a student decides to take this lesson but isn't committed to practicing every third day in the time period between lessons, do us both a favor and don't book the lesson. This lesson is for students that are serious about getting better.

By the way, this isn't just for young players, seniors can gain swing speed too. Don't be afraid to give this a try as long as you don't have any physical limitations that prevent you from swinging a club. If you are in reasonably good shape you can still improve your swing speed.

The total cost for both lessons is $80. The first lesson runs about 45 minutes, the second lesson runs about 30 minutes. Full payment is required at the first lesson.

Range balls used during the lesson are included in the price.

Impact and Swing Speed Package Lessons

One-on-one personalized instruction.

This package includes the best of both worlds. Students that are not quite proficient enough to take the swing speed lesson but want to, would benefit from this combination.

First, you will learn how to get to a good impact position, then how to increase your swing speed.

These lessons are conducted over three sessions, the same as if they were done separately - but you save a few bucks. The lessons taken individually would cost $125, as a package it costs $115, otherwise the same details as described for each lesson.

Range balls used during the lesson are included in the price.

Two Person Lessons

This has proved to be very popular for friends and couples, $35 per student per session, sessions run 45 minutes in length. Range balls used during the lesson are included in the price.

The Basic 3 Lesson Package cost for two students is $95 per student.

The Impact and Swing Speed Package Lessons cost for two students is $80 per student.

For a playing lesson, the student decides beforehand on how they want it to proceed. It can be done several different ways:

    The instructor can play each hole with the student and discuss course management, club and shot selection for every shot;
    The instructor can play along and critique each hole after it's played;
    The instructor does not play at all, but coaches the student on course management and club selection shot by shot during the round;
Or any variation of the above that the student wants.
